Wool Bam Boo

Classic Elite has just released Wool Bamboo and this yarn is gorgeous. I don't know if the pictures can accurately capture the sheen this yarn has and you have to touch to truly appreciate the softness. The colors are incredible attractive.

This yarn is, as the name suggests, wool and bamboo blend. It is 5 1/2 stitches to the inch. It has 118 yards.

A few folks have already begun knitting this yarn and it is stunning!

New Yarn

Well, we have been working hard on the move into the new space. The new space will allow us to carry more yarns including the new Fall ones above (shown above). As well, we have more arriving and will find a great new home at 214 Glenridge Ave. We have Lacey Lamb, Revue, Wool Bamboo, Soxx Appeal (to name a few). Above are some you may already have seen in the old shop. Later this week, I should have some before and after shots of the new space.

Thursday Night Recap

The store was hopping as a lot of people took advantage of our sale, buying sweater yarn, needles, and enjoying some of Patty's Mom's brownies. Some things witnessed around the shop include:
Ellen working on her scribble scarf for a friend allergic to wool. So, of course, she is using "I am allergic to wool" yarn. She made some progress...
Another knit night regular finished a sweater in Debbie Bliss yarn. This was so nice, you have to touch it to believe how soft it is...

Marlis demonstrating her modeling skills. Marlis' mom came to pick out some knitting projects and Marlis fell in love with Ozark. We can't wait to see the hat and scarf.
And this is Rocky whose mom was also shopping. He was incredibly sweet and his mom explained he was found as a stray. Rocky realized a good situation when he started getting dog treats and then he danced and he danced. Don't you love happy endings to stories?

Red Scarf Project 2008

Just a friendly reminder that we are still accepting red scarves for the Red Scarf Project. The store offers a 10% discount on red yarn to be used for donated scarves (although as I type this there is still the store sale which is 20% off ending Friday). You can drop off completed scarves at the store by October 10th and Sheila will mail. You can also attach gift cards with the scarf for the students or even a nice handwritten card with washing instructions. I just read they are asking for quality scarves, not quantity.

Here's some more info from the website...

Scarf Size: Approximately 60" long and 5" to 8" wide.
Style: Think unisex collegiate. Ask yourself if your son, brother, and/or husband would enjoy receiving the scarf. Fringes are optional. Your scarf should drape and tie easily.
Yarn: Preferably DK, double fingering-weight, worsted weight, or light bully yarns. No laceweight, super-chunky, or mohair yarns as there are many people who find mohair too itchy. The yarn should be soft.
Color: Red! However, this could mean burgundy, cherry, russet, red stripes with other colors, or multicolor hues including red. Other unisex colors, including black, navy, teal, olive or gold are also welcome.
Finished and tagged: Yarn ends should be securely sewn in. For a personal touch, attach a tag saying "Handmade for You" with your first name, city, and group affiliation, if any. Donors have also included washing instructions, messages of encouragement, gift cards, burger bucks, books of stamps, etc.

Here's a collection of the 13 scarves we have collected so far, in various yarns, patterns, and styles.
They all look so beautiful, and they feel divine. The various yarns range from cotton, wool, and alpaca.

These baby surprise jackets are not only a quick knit but also a fascinating knit (and possibly an addictive knit). This is an Elizabeth Zimmerman pattern which is included in The Opinionated Knitter as well as in Knitter's Workshop. Or, you can purchase this pattern individually from our shop or take home the whole book for a wonderful read with EZ's knitting insights and humor.

New Sheep

Anyone who has stopped by the shop will probably notice that we have a sheep fetish. Granted, we don't have an existing head count for how many sheep exist within the walls of stix, we do enjoy adding new ones to hang out with us.
Please meet our newest addition to the stix home. This guy will probably be hanging out at the front. If stopping by for the sale, say hello.
Don't forget sales ends this friday but is a flat 20% off everything.

Alpaca Sox

This yarn is alpaca, wool, and nylon, and is luxuriously soft. One hank is enough to make a pair of cozy socks for yourself or someone you love, and check out the lucious colors....
And you can read about Wendy's comments about this yarn as well. This is a great thing to pick up during the sale as even new Fall items are included in the sale which ends Friday, September 21, also known as tomorrow.

Tofutsies Arrived!

South West Trading Company Tofutsies yarn is in the shop and looking lovely! It is superwash wool, soysilk fibers, cotton, and chitin. And as the little crab graphic on the label states, "Chitin is fiber from shrimp and crab shells! It's naturally antibacterial!".
Here is the close up shot (and yes, better focused) of the colors. As one customer stated, "This yarn reminds me of the summer and the shore."
One skein makes one pair of socks.

Thursday Night Fun

We bring you this update on unique things that you may run across on a Thursday Night Knitting Group.

Yes, that would be a trool. But, what a knitter or crocheter notices is that this troll is stylishly wearing a handmade sweater by her pal Fran. This isn't the first sweater Fran has made (she has a small gang of trolls all sharply sporting knitted items).
In fact, we have a side profile of the garment for your appreciation (our lady is standing on some Cherry Tree Hill Yarn).
