Fall 2007 Knitting School







A new schedule of classes is starting up for Fall. Register early with pre-payment to assure a spot. It is time to think about a project just for you: a first sweater, a Moebius, a lace shawl, a cowl in a luxurious yarn, exquisite socks that fit you like no store-bought sock ever could! At stix-n-stitches, we have gorgeous yarns, oodles of great loose leaf patterns, the latest knitting magazines, wonderful books, expert help to get you started, and lots of camaraderie to keep you going and finishing. Let your fall knitting begin!For added motivation, pick out a class and register early. Classes are a great way to meet other knitters while you learn new skills, tips and tricks.

EZ’S ADULT SURPRISE JACKET with Debra
4 classes, Wednesdays 12:30 – 2:30 Sept 19, 26, Oct 3, 10
You won’t believe it until you finish it – a handsome garter-stitch jacket knit in one piece with a single seam at each shoulder. Enjoy the genius of Elizabeth Zimmerman’s timeless design while you learn sizing, double increases/decreases, edging details, armhole modifications and more. You’ve seen the Baby Surprise Jacket in the store; don’t deny yourself the adult version!Requirements: For intermediate knitters who have completed a garment. You must purchase your yarn and bring a completed gauge swatch to the first class. When you sign up for the class, you’ll receive swatch directions, a list of recommended yarns, and assistance choosing yarns.
Fee: $100 for four sessions, including EZ’s pattern and all handouts. Yarn and notions additional.

KNITTING FOR THE FIRST TIME: BEGINNERS with Sunday
6 classes, Saturdays, 10:00 am –noon, September 8, 15, 29 October 6, 13, 20, (No class Sept 22)-

6 classes, Wednesdays, 10:00 am- noon, September 12, 19, 26, October 3, 10, 17
If you have always planned on learning to knit, now is the time. The yarns coming in for fall are truly beautiful. Learn to knit, purl, cast-on, bind-off, decrease, how to fix mistakes, and basic finishing techniques. By the end of the class, you will have learned everything you need to know to start your first sweater! Join us for six, informative, fun classes, and learn how knitting can enhance your life.Requirements: No knitting skills required.
Fee: $125 per six-week session.

BEYOND SCARVES: YOUR FIRST (OR SECOND) SWEATER with Sunday
6 classes, Sundays, 10:00 am –Noon, September 16, 23, 30, October 7, 14, 28 (No class, Sunday October 21)
Do you know how to knit, but feel hesitant about following a pattern? In this intermediate class, we will take you beyond squares and rectangles (baby blankets and scarves). Learn how to read a pattern, choose yarns, calculate yardage, increases, and decreases, pick up stitches, start a new skein of yarn, and finish, while knitting a simple pullover of your choice. Come in prior to class to purchase pattern and yarn.Requirements: Must know how to knit and purl.
Fees: $125 per six-week session.

MY FIRST MOEBIUS with Debra
1 class, Wednesday, September 12: 12:30 – 2:30 pm
Learn the moebius cast on and get started on your first (of many) moebius scarf. Stop by in advance to purchase your yarn and needles.Requirements: For advanced beginner knitters. Must be comfortable knitting in the round.

LACE AND TEXTURED MOEBIUS with Debra
1 class, Wednesday, October 3, 12:30 – 2:30 pm
Take your moebius knitting to a new level. Try a lace or chevron pattern and watch the beauty magically unfold from the center out.Requirements: For advanced beginner knitters. Must know moebius cast on. Must be comfortable knitting in the round.

FELTED MOEBIUS BOWLS with Debra
1 class, Wednesday, October 17, 12:30 – 2:30 pm
Learn Cat Bordhi’s techniques for felted bowls with moebius handles. These little bowls are so fetching you'll want several for yourself and for gifts.Requirements: Must know moebius cast on. For advanced beginner knitters. Must be comfortable knitting in the round.
Fee: $30 includes felting instructions. Yarn and notions extra, see moebius note below.

MOEBIUS NOTE: We are teaching Cat Bordhi’s moebius techniques, thus all attendees must purchase or own the relevant Cat Bordhi book.

BEGINNER’S FELTING with Debra
3 classes, Thursdays 1:00 – 3:00 pm, September 20, 27, and Oct 11.
Learn how to: design a square or rectangular handbag or tote; select yarns and needles appropriate for felting; knit, felt, block, dry and care for your felted accessory. As a bonus, you’ll also learn knitting in the round, I-cords and I-cord bind-offs, yarn over buttonholes, and some simple exercises to keep your wrists and hands relaxed while you knit.Requirements: Ability to knit, purl, increase, decrease, cast on and bind off.
Fee: $95 includes a nifty binder with reference materials for sizing and designing bags. Plan to select your yarn, needles, and notions at the first class.

FINISHING with Sunday
1 class, Wednesday, October 24, 10am- 12pm
Do you love to knit, but hate to sew the sweaters together? Learn how to seam, pick up stitches, make buttonholes, darn in ends invisibly, and much more. Included are tips and tricks to make your sweater a garment you will be proud to wear. Intermediate knitting skills required.Requirements: Contact us with your email address for homework requirements.
Fee: $30

FAIR ISLE HAT with Debra
2 classes, Wednesdays, Oct 24 and 31: 12:30 – 2:30 pm
Want to learn Fair Isle without committing to a sweater? It’s easy with a hat, circular needles and bulky yarn. You will learn how to work two colors: one in your right and the other in your left hand! When you’re finished you’ll know the basics.Requirements: Intermediate knitters. Must be comfortable working with circular and double-pointed needles.
Fee: $55 includes handouts. Yarn and notions not included.Note: Our hat class is the natural precursor to a Fair Isle sweater. Depending on interest, we’ll be offering a Fair Isle sweater class to build on the skills learned in the hat class.

MITTENS FOR THE HOLIDAYS with Sunday
1 class, Wednesday, November 7 10:00 am- 12 Noon
Are you sick of knitting scarves? Learn a new technique (circular knitting) in time for knitted holiday gifts. Mittens are fast and very easy, and will keep your family warm this winter. We will also provide you with the option of fingerless gloves- very fashionable this season.Requirements: Must know how to cast on, knit, purl and bind off.
Fee: $25

LEARN HOW TO CROCHET with Patty
3 classes, Tuesdays, October 2, 9,16 7-8:30pm
Want to learn how to crochet?Learn how to make a basic chain, moving on to single and double crochets. Use introductory skills to begin making Granny Squares using simple patterns to create a scarf or afghan. Learn skills you need to complete your project. Requirements: Materials to be purchased during the first class.
Fee: $75.00

THURSDAYS:
Looking for inspiration and camaraderie? Need in-depth support on a particular project? Join other knitters and crocheters on Thursday nights from 7:00 – 9:00pm.

HOUSE RULES
• Materials must be purchased at stix-n-stitches prior to the start of your class or workshop.
• Pre-payment/pre-registration required, by cash or check (payable to the instructor).
• If you need to cancel, notify us as soon as possible. Your registration fee is refundable if and when your spot is filled.
• If a class is cancelled by stix-n-stitches, registration fees will be refunded.
• If the weather is bad, call us to confirm. We will reschedule if a class is cancelled due to inclement weather.
