HOW TO KNIT
5 sessions, Saturdays, March 14, 21, 28, April 4, 11 10AM-12NOON
Fee $175
This is a beginner’s class or a class for people who need a refresher course in knitting. Learn all of the fundamentals: casting on, knit, purl, binding off, shaping, gauge, basic finishing and how to read a pattern. By the end of the class, you will have learned all of the techniques needed to knit a sweater. Really.
FINISHING FUNDAMENTALS
1 session, Wednesday March 18, 10AM-12:30PM, OR Sunday April 26 2PM-4:30PM
Fee $40
This class will teach mattress stitch, three needle bind off, how to sew side seams, a drop shoulder sleeve, and how to pick up stitches for necklines, and other tips and tricks for neater garments. We will also do buttonholes if time allows.
KNIT YOUR FIRST (OR SECOND OR THIRD) SWEATER
6 sessions, Sundays, March 8, 15, 22, 29, April 5, 19, 10AM-12PM
Fee $175
This is a class for those who know the fundamentals, but who wish to go farther than knitting scarves. You will learn about sizing, how to do a gauge swatch, how to read a pattern, shaping, and anything else that comes up in your pattern. You will select a sweater after consulting with the teacher. This should be arranged in advance.
FIX MISTAKES FEARLESSLY
1 session, Wednesday, April 1, 10AM-12PM
Fee $35
Many knitters feel intimidated by fixing mistakes in their knitting. This class will de-mystify the process and give you plenty of practice so the next time you drop a stitch or need to turn a purl into a knit, you will feel like a pro. We will also teach some tips and tricks to help you avoid those dreaded mistakes. You will leave the class with a clearer understanding of the nature of knits and purls. This class is for beginner and intimidated intermediate knitters.
SOCKS ON SUNDAY 3 SESSIONS,
Your choice of 3 classes- Sunday March 22, 29, April 5, 19 2PM-4PM
Fee $90
This is an accelerated sock class in which we knit a top down, short row heel sock. The sock is knit in fingering or dk weight yarn- knitters choice. The following skills are taught: casting on in the round, ribbing and stockinette stitch in the round, knitting a short row heel flap, grafting, and sizing. In addition, we will discuss tips and tricks for neater (and easier) socks, and knitting a sock with a long circular needle.Must know how to cast on, knit, purl, and bind off. Supplies: 100 grams of fingering weight sock yarn, or 150 gms of DK sock yarn, double pointed needles or a 47 inch circular needle in a size appropriate to the yarn.
MITTENS:
2 Sessions, Tuesdays, March 17, 24, 7PM-9PM
Fee $60
If you are a beginner who has grown tired of scarves, and is ready for a new obsession, you may enjoy mittens. They are fast, don’t use a lot of yarn, and are a fun gift. This class will teach you to cast on and knit in the round on double pointed needles or with a “magic loop”, how to increase, decrease, do an afterthought thumb and weave in ends.
House Rules
• Pre-payment/Pre-registration is required.
• Payment must be made by check or cash directly to the instructor.
• If you need to cancel, notify us as soon as possible.
• Your registration fee is refundable if and when your spot is filled.
• If a class is cancelled by stix-n-stitches, registration fees will be refunded.
• If the weather is bad, call us to confirm. We will reschedule if a class is cancelled due to inclement weather.
• Class fees do not include supplies and yarn. Materials must be purchased at stix-n-stitches prior to the start of your class or workshop.
